This is our classic sock yarn, knitted into a blank with a single strand of yarn. It behaves impeccably, no matter what you do to it. The yarn sucks up the dye like a dream, it speckles really well, and hand paints and glazing techniques work nicely. When knitted into socks it makes a soft, even fabric. This yarn would also work for hard-wearing, but yet soft garments. This is a classic staple to add to your range.
Sock blanks should be soaked in very warm water to loosen the knitted fabric prior to dyeing. This is the key to ensuring that the dye saturates the yarn.
Sock blanks can be dyed or painted in a variety of ways. Making horizontal dye patterns will yield wider sections of color in the final knitted fabric, where vertical or diagonal applications of color will give a more varied appearance in the final kniit fabric. Blanks can be used to create self-striping yarns.
The blank can be unravelled easily from one end (there is a right end and a wrong end – the wrong end has a lock stitch at both edges and won't unravel smoothly). The knitter can knit directly from the dyed blank, or the blank can be wound into a ball for a more traditional approach.
