The Mirasol Project
Wool2dye4 has for many years been contributing towards the daily running costs of the Mirasol School in Peru. We are honored to support this wonderful project, and we contribute about 30% of its running costs. The project supports the children of communities in Muñani, Neque in Puno with their education.
Our good friends, Kari Hestnes and Per Svendsen, former owners of Du Store Alpakka, visited Peru in 2006. During their visit to Fundo Sorani Alpaca Ranch, they went on an excursion and met two of the children of one of the alpaca shepherds: Marisol and Alex.
From them, Kari and Per learned about the living conditions of the Andean people. They recognized the many challenges that children had to face in order to attend school and study — often walking between 2 and 3 hours every day to reach school, regardless of the weather.
Kari and Per decided to build a house where children could stay from Monday to Friday to be closer to the school. The mill then transferred an area of 12,200 sq meters within their alpaca ranch to start the project.
Today, thanks to the committed support of several companies and individuals, the Mirasol Project hosts more than 62 primary students and 13 high school students.
