Cellulose Fibers

Cellulose fibers are those which are derived from plant sources. Bamboo is a cellulose fiber, so is Tencel (which is derived from eucalyptus wood).

If you are dyeing a 100% cellulose yarn such as our Pima Cotton, you would need to use Fibre Reactive dyes as acid dyes would have no effect. There is more information on this in our Yarn Tips section.

When dyeing a blend of cellulose and animal fibers, such as our Wool Cotton yarns, you will need to use an acid dye. The acid dyes will strike the protein fibres (such as wool and alpaca) and not the cellulose fibers, so the results are often slightly muted, and always beautiful. Our blends are designed to give good results with these dyes, and in some cases we exploit the constructions to create fun effects.
