Alpaca
Our alpaca comes from the Peruvian Andes. It is sourced from smaller farmers whose way of life is their animals. The mill works closely with the alpaca farmers to improve breeding programs and helps them to produce the best quality alpaca in the world. The alpaca fibers are sorted by micron count and by color by highly skilled women, it’s really fascinating to watch.
Alpaca is an interesting fiber. It is light, yet very warm. There is no lanolin in alpaca fiber, so people who are allergic to lanolin can wear alpaca. However, alpaca is a luxury fiber and care should be taken of garments knit with this fiber. We recommend washing by hand, and laying flat to dry.
Our yarns are generally sold by the kilo. Skeins are packaged as 10 x 100g to equal a kilo. To explore yarns available in different size skeins, please use the "Yarns by presentation" category.
