Non-Superwash

Yarns in this list do not contain any superwash fibers. They differ from the 'Felting' category only in that all non-SW yarn is not necessarily a candidate for felting. Many experienced garment knitters prefer a non-superwash yarn in their sweaters, vests, hats. They are warmer than superwash yarns as they have not had any of the protective cells surrounding the fiber core stripped away. The fibers rub against each other and attach ever so slightly in what is known as a fulling effect. All non-superwash yarns do not do this. Silk, for instance, does not full the same way that Merino or Alpaca does. It is all about personal preference, and as a service to our customers, we list here all yarns which are appropriate for knitting garments and do not contain any superwash fibers.

The gauge on 3mm (between US2 and US3) is 26sts and 46 rows.

This yarn is exquisite. The soft warm natural yak colour gives a warm undertone to the yarn. This yarn can be dyed or knit as it is.  The speckles on this are super soft and look really natural. The yarn is a joy to knit and creates a soft Yak halo. The resulting fabric is super light and warm. This yarn would work well on a larger needle size than US3 to create a more open Fabric. I've stranded it with the Tibetan 4ply to give make a gorgeous swatch. This yarn is strong and would work as a weft, it may work as a warp, but I don’t know how well it would work with a lot of movement from the heddles, if you try it let me know!

I would use this yarn for lace shawls/cowls, and light sweaters, and works a treat to add a warm halo stranded with other yarns.

  • Cloud 874

65% Baby Suri Alpaca, 35% Silk

437 yds/50g skein, sold in half kilo packs of 10 x 50g skeins

Our Cloud 874 is a brushed Suri alpaca with a silk core, it's deliciously soft and snuggly, and has fantastic yardage with the 50g hanks going a long way with 437 yards per hank. With 65% Baby Suri Alpaca and 35% Mulberry silk it's pure fluffy luxury.

It has a higher percentage of silk and a better yardage than our Suri Silk Cloud.

This yarn is a great alternative to mohair, on its own or wonderful for stranding with another yarn. Note the brown swatch is the yarn stranded with Tibetan 4ply.

This gorgeous delicate boucle is something really special.

It’s a soft boucle with added shine from the silk. It takes the dye really well. My favorite thing to do with this yarn is to strand it with one end of our Suri Silk cloud. Perfect for accessories, cuffs, Cowls, and sweaters. It gives a knitted fabric a lovely light texture and dyes like a dream

  • Silky Fluff

70% Grade A Mulberry Silk 30% Fine Merino

    1ply yarn Brushed Construction

219 yds/50g skein, sold in kilo packs of 10 skeins

Gauge on 4mm/US6: 19 sts and 28 rows for 10cm/4”

    WPI is 15

Silky Fluff is a brushed version of our silk Boucle. It has a very soft muted fluff that knits up to be almost chenille-like in texture. For the swatch below I used 4mm needles but smaller sizes would also work well. The fabric has a soft drapey texture. This would work well for Accessories and sweaters. The yarn takes the dye well, speckles will be soft and muted on this yarn due to the construction, I’ve speckled this sample and it turned out to be really delicate, it's lovely.

The strands in the yarn in the hank once dyed do stick together, they are easy to separate and do not affect the knitting, but this is part of the yarn construction and not a problem. The yarn can be rewound if the presentation isn’t to your liking.

  • Our Suri Silk cloud DK is a brushed Suri alpaca with a silk core, it's deliciously soft and snuggly.Suri Silk Cloud DK

90% Baby Suri Alpaca, 10% Silk

    246 yds/100g skein, sold in kilo packs of 10 x 100g skeins

You know those tiny grey super fluffy kittens? This is what squishing this yarn reminds me of. It's super soft, fluffy and silky, absolutely gorgeous. A sweater or cowl made in this yarn will be divine and something you will never want to take off. There is zero itch factor for this yarn, a super alternative for those that don't get on with Mohair.

The yarn takes the dye well, speckles spread softly. The skeins may require a little re-fluff depending on your dyeing method once done. I made two swatches for this yarn, one in #7 and one in #8 both work, nicely, the size 7 has a neater quality, but I like the drape of the #8.
